It&#8217;s our third swap and the last two were very popular, so we are all looking forward to opening our gift bags on the day.\u00a0 Each swapper has to buy a different item for six different people, 1 yarn, 1 pattern, 1 accessory, 1 hand made, 1 edible and 1 bag.\u00a0 So everyone in the swap\u00a0 gets 6 gifts all from different people, lovely!<\/p>\n<p>For the bag some people choose to buy a nice shopping bag, others will knit a bag and some of us decide to sew a bag.\u00a0 So I spent too much time surfing through bags on pinterest, when I found this <a href=\"http:\/\/veiledpurl.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/14\/old-jeans-to-new-bag-sewing-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\">bag tutorial for using an old pair of jeans<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been collecting my torn\/worn\/too big\/too small jeans for a while to make some aprons and project bags. So it was a no brainer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-307\" alt=\"Demin Bag\" src=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0030-300x281.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0030-300x281.jpg 300w, https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0030.jpg 692w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I made some minor changes to the pattern;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where it mentions cutting off the pointy corners, I cut the corners to make a bag bottom instead. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.purlbee.com\/the-purl-bee\/2012\/6\/3\/mollys-sketchbook-the-forty-minute-tote.html\" target=\"_blank\">tutorial here)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Added a regular sewn on pocket instead of a zip locket.<\/li>\n<li>Instead of leaving a gap at the top of the bag for turning, I left a gap in the bottom of the liner, machined the liner to the top of bag, turned through then stitched the gap in the liner closed.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s worth noting that I didn&#8217;t use a pair of flared jeans, because the bag panels are made from 3&#8243; wide pieces you should have enough fabric in a pair of regular jeans.<\/li>\n<li>For the lining you need 2 pieces of fabric approx&#8217; 13&#8243;x13&#8243; plus extra if you want a pocket.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-308\" alt=\"Denim Bag\" src=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0031-300x267.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0031-300x267.jpg 300w, https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0031.jpg 699w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The finished bag is approx&#8217; 12&#8243; x 12&#8243; x 2&#8243; with a 26&#8243; strap, a nice size for a small handbag or project bag.\u00a0 I hope my swap partner likes it!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-309\" alt=\"Denim Bag\" src=\"http:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0032-300x226.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0032-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/knit.colourfuldesigns.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/IMG_0032.jpg 821w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our local knitting group is hosting an Autumn swap, so it&#8217;s time to make some gifts.
